Following in the footsteps
Israel, Italy and Western Mediterranean Cruise
The Italian word for PILGRIM is PELLIGRINO.
And, here’s your chance to be one, following the journeys of the Apostle Paul, and more recently, the pilgrimage made in March, 2020 by the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve at the dedication of the Rome Temple.
It will be a unique journey, the first such land and sea cruise visiting both the Holy Land and the most popular tourist sites in Italy, as well as a circumnavigation of some of the most popular ports o’call of the western Mediterranean, that has been designed specifically for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by CruiseBuilder.
It’s a first! An authentic pellegrinnagio! (Italian for pilgrimage: This would be a good time to start learning some Italian!)
Remember when President Monson announced the construction of the Rome Italy temple at the last session of the October 2008 conference? It was the gasp heard around the world, causing ripples in the Conference Center and a tsunami in Italy! So, when the word gets out about the FOOTSTEPS CRUISE, all the allotted cabins on COSTA PACIFICA could be filled up quickly. Here’s. why:
The Rome Temple, Italy
The Mount of Olives, Israel
And what a home it is!
With more than 1,500, including 91 with direct access to the spa, 521 with private balconies and 58 suites, it is definitely a floating luxury y hotel, complete with five restaurants (and a chocolate bar!), four pools, five jacuzzis and the Samsara spa. If you overdo it either the buffet or one of the restaurants, you can work it off on the outdoor jogging track, spend some time in the gym or visit the pool. And, if all else fails, attend the theatre or find a lounge chair somewhere and fall asleep as you pretend to read a book.
The point is, there’s no excuse for getting bored on the Costa Pacifica.
Including airfare from the cities shown below, the land tours (including LDS tour guides on the Rome portion), pre- and post-cruise hotel accommodations PLUS the cost of the cruise, the package price is available NOW (subject to change anytime) for less than $3,800 per person (See chart below for other cabin options).
Now consider what you get for that price (feel free to check out the Web and compare it to other cruise packages that visit ONLY Mediterranean ports o’call with NO land tours, certainly NOT to Israel. This is a MUCH BETTER deal!):
On Thursday, you’ll fly directly to Israel to begin your pilgrimage to the Holy Land that first includes a visit to the places where Christ began his ministry near Galilee and the Mount of Beatitudes. The next day, we’ll travel south to visit the most prominent sites in Jerusalem including the Garden Tomb, the Mount of Olives and the Garden Gethsemane. In the Old City, we’ll visit the southern steps of the Temple Mount, the main gate at Hezekiah’s broad wall and the possible location where Nephi got the brass plates from Laban. And, we’ll walk on the very cobblestones where Pilot delivered the final judgment of Christ and close to the site where He was scourged. Then, on Tuesday, we’ll fly to Venice, Italy, where we’ll get a boat tour of Venice and nearby Murano. The next two days will take us across Tuscany through Bologna and Florence, and after a drive down the coast, we’ll reach Pisa and our home on the sea, the Costa Pacifica.
Costa Pacifica exterior
From Pisa, our adventure on the sea begins.
First, we sail northwards to Genoa (made famous by Christopher Columbus), arriving on Friday. On Saturday, our destination is Barcelona, Spain, the capital of the Catalonia region, famous for its art and architecture; Sunday, we cruise to the isle of Palma de Mallorca, the capital and largest city in the “autonomous community of the Balearic Islands” and originally a Roman camp. Then, the Costa Pacifica heads to Malta in the center of the Mediterranean, south of Sicily, and a key nexus point in World War II. Our final stop before returning to the Italian mainland is Calgliari on the island of Sardinia, a popular summer and beach destination, famous for its clear and pristine waters.
On Thursday, we arrive in Rome, for a walk around visit to the Coliseum and then a visit to the new LDS temple site and the “piazza” that includes the beautiful visitors center and first-hand look at stained-glass windows, the murals and certainly, the Christus statues and the apostles, all created out of white marble from the Carrara. The following day takes us to the Vatican and to nearby sites in Rome.
On Saturday, we say arrivederci to Rome, Italy and our new friends, after following in the footsteps of ancient–and modern–apostles.
Whether you call it a “pilgrimage” or just a splendid 16 days in the Mediterranean, it promises to be an unforgettable opportunity to recharge your spiritual and emotional batteries.
We hope you can put it on your schedule.
